![]() ![]() Chamber concerts in Veena by Mudikondan S.N.Ramesh, Reju Narayanan and Ajith Namboothiri have been held since the inception two years ago.Apart from regular classes, the Institute holds regular workshops, classes and lecture demonstrations by stalwarts like Prince Aswathi Thirunal Rama Varma, Govindan Namboothiri, Ajith Namboothiri, Mudikondan S.N.Ramesh.Reju Narayanan Annammanada teaches vocal carnatic music, Smt Srividya Varma teaches the Veena, Smt Sudha Marar teaches the Violin and Mridangam is being taught by Bijayshankar from Chalakudy.The tutors at this Institute are highly qualified, needless to say talented people who have been performing professionally for several years. The instruments that are taught here are the Veena, Violin and the Mridangam. The Institute conducts intensive classical music classes in vocal as well as instrumental music. Today, the venue has transformed itself into a School of music. ![]() The Valiya Thampuran Kovilakam, is a part of the Cochin Royal Family built by Shaktan Thampuran, over two centuries ago.It is interesting to note that the Valiya Thampuran Kovilakam at one time used to host Kathakali performances. And that is exactly what happens at the Irinjalakuda based Varaveena School of Music located within the Valiya Thampuran Kovilakam on the northern side of the Koodalmanikkyam Temple. This makes the job of preserving our music all the more consecrated. Music has proved to be a mood booster, stress buster, memory and intelligence enhancer. Science has amply demonstrated that the human mind responds to musical variations in different ways. Music and man have been fellow travellers for eons now, so much so, that music is part of human civilisation and development. We are living in times of realization, of the magic of music.
